Select the volume you wish to scan by clicking once on a volume in the 'Volume List' window. You can perform two different types of scans:
Quick Scan
Checks for AutoStart and SevenDust (Graphics Accelerator) files in their exact locations on the selected volume. This method does a top level scan and a system level scan on the selected volume (a system level scan is performed only if there is a System Folder on the selected volume). Trojan Horse and PC-specific files are covered in the Full Scan method only (see below) since the exact location of these files can vary.
Full Scan
Checks for AutoStart, SevenDust, Trojan Horse and PC-specific files in every location possible on the selected volume - in other words, everywhere. Note that the full scan method takes longer to perform but is the recommended method.
If BugScan locates any virus applications and/or virus documents, you'll see a number of indicators on screen including a 'red light' prompting you to 'isolate' the files. See the section entitled 'What Do To When...' for instructions on how to deal with BugScan's final diagnosis.
The 'Log Window' will provide you with a visual display during the scan and after the scan. You can cancel a scan in progress at any time by pressing the command and period keys on your keyboard together at the same time.
Note that BugScan may read some of the files created by other shareware and freeware utilities as viruses. These files may be 'isolated' by BugScan after you've performed a 'Scan' and have chosen the 'Isolate' function. You should always save the 'Log Window' as a text file so you can see exactly where the files originated from in case you need to replace them.
